That doesn’t even look bad.... compared to the double cab non-Prerunner 2WD.

Hi

This is a good point....I didn't google very hard for the most disproportionate 2wd

But.....why....

That appears to be exaggerated.

Eehhhh they’re like the bastard child of lowriders and bro trucks

The single cab and box help for some reason. I just saw one drive by and it looked really awkward so I found the closest picture to the one I saw

2wd extended cabs didn’t look quite right, I won’t disagree.

How long is your bed? Maybe it’s just the angle but it looks loooong...
![]() 05/28/2016 at 21:54 |

6'.
This truck is difficult to look at every day. Some angles are really good: modern, foreboding. Other angles are just disproportionate as fuck.

I nearly bought a 2002 (when new) corgi Extracab Taco. 4-cyl and a stick got ~26 mpg and it was around $19k which for what you got was reasonable.
![]() 05/28/2016 at 21:56 |

That is super reasonable for that situation. Corgi taco, awesome haha

It’s weird Toyota lowers their RWD trucks. I mean, it sort of makes sense, since their lower ride height likely equals more stability, which may be lacking without 4WD, but my RWD Ranger is still the same height as a 4WD Ranger and my mom’s RAV4 is the same as a 4WD RAV4; just no badge on the back and a blank space by the radio instead of the 4WD lock.

I still very much want one. That generation specifically. They were still a true compact truck and it was a bare-bones truck that could do work, but with the xtracab I still have a rain-free zone when needed.

I never thought about that, it’s just them and Nissan that lowers their 2wds....I guess to push people to get the 4wds even more? Or it could be stability as you said, and fuel economy

A friend of mine has a 2004 Frontier, 2wd, v6, 5 speed. He loves it for the same reasons, but still preferred his ‘90 D21. That was sadly stolen

We had a mechanic trade in a 1989 Nissan pickup with 278k on it. 4-cyl and a manual with crank windows, no a/c and manual steering. The bench was basically just duct tape at that point. I knew a guy who was looking for a truck that was as cheap as possible to use as a runabout. He drove it until 400k when it finally needed to die. He scrapped it for more than he bought it for.

Nissan’s RWD crew cabs are at normal height. I mostly see RWD Frontiers, but the ones that have 4x4 badges on the back are the same height.

I had a 1990 4cyl, no a/c, manual steering, no rear bumper, 5spd stick - absolutely loved it... but I needed a back seat and it needed brakes, shocks, etc...

If I ever need a manual, 4x4 pickup from the 80s/90s like everyone in the lower mainland seems to need, I’ll probably get one of these

I do prefer the looks of toyotas, but absolutely everyone wants one, so an equivalent yota would be like 5k

^^ not one of my trucks^^
when the garage door is 7ft 6in high, and you need to get it in the door, you get “creative”.
or, when your wheels and tires go out of style, and you just need to move it around the yard.
or even the initial build. it gives it something even to set on, and something easy to measure.

Oh I might just be thinking of the older single cab frontiers

They had a great look too. One of the classic looking compact trucks. I may be biased, my neighbor in MI was a DM for Nissan, he had posters of the Nissan hardbody race trucks catching air somewhere. It’s an image that has stuck with me ever since.

That looks hilarious, but makes a lot of sense

Exactly. That’s why the 90s Pups have been catching my eye when they come up for sale.

My friends looking for one for a work truck. Either that or like an old Astro van. There was a manual 1st gen Astro that showed up briefly that he almost got, but missed it.

also prices (then plus wheels) yeah its a bit of an extreme example but you get the idea.
depending on how long it takes to afford to get one ready for tires and wheels , and then afford the tires and wheels.

Do you have a Ranger sport or an Edge? Then it would be at 4x4 height. Other 2wd rangers are shorter than 4x4s.
Damnit, I’m starting to know useless Ranger facts.
![]() 05/28/2016 at 22:55 |

Older Rangers, and S-10s are typically lower in their 2wd forms. depends on trim though. My dad had two 2wd rangers, on a 89 that wasn’t a Sport, and one an 91 Sport the 91 Sport was noticeably lower.

I had a 97 4x4, V6, manual, extended cab. It was such an awesome truck. It was green with gold decals, we called it the Bull Frog. Too bad with the way they are priced now, there’s no way I’d buy another one.

I have a base 2007 Ranger. It’s taller than a RWD Sonoma on my street; that thing is short.

But shorter than a 4x4 Ranger.
